No. 12 Acalanes 33, Northgate 14

The Broncos (6-4, 1-4 DAL Foothill) struck quickly, scoring twice in the first nine minutes to take a 14-0 lead against heavily favored Acalanes (9-1, 4-1). But the Dons hooked up for an 80-yard touchdown pass from Sully Bailey to Trevor Rogers before the end of the quarter to cut the lead in half, then they outscored Northgate 26-0 over the next three periods. Bailey hit Ethan Torres with a 5-yard TD to tie the score 14-14 at halftime, then Jake Boselli threw a 45-yard pass to Torres in the third quarter that put the visitors ahead to stay at 19-14. Ellis Burger scored on two short runs in the fourth quarter for Acalanes. The Dons are likely to be seeded No. 2 in Division IV for the NCS playoffs, sandwiched between North Bay powers Marin Catholic and Cardinal Newman. That could set up a first-round game at Acalanes against Concord from the DAL Valley Division. Northgate, which is in Division III, will probably be on the road for the first round, possibly at Windsor. – Mike Lefkow
